The faculty members sent the nation's top prosecutor a letter this month asking him to rescind his decision to participate in May's commencement proceedings, citing his involvement with the growing waterboarding controversy, The Boston Globe reported Sunday.
The March 11 letter said Mukasey's "role in the current controversy regarding the legality of waterboarding has made you a symbol of administration policies that conflict with basic principles of international and domestic law, the ideals of Boston College Law School, and the Jesuit principles that underlie Boston College's educational mission."
While the university employees have asked him not to speak at the commencement ceremony, they did say he would be welcomed as a speaker in the future, the Globe said.
The attorney general's office offered no comment regarding the request.
