Man hides dead wife in hotel room

CHESAPEAKE, Va., March 20 (UPI) -- Police in Chesapeake, Va., investigated a man who kept his wife's body in a hotel room for more than a week after her death, but have filed no charges.

Red Roof Inn housekeeping staff discovered the woman's body March 12 on the floor near the bed after smelling a foul odor coming from the room for a week, the Norfolk Virginian-Pilot reported.

The woman -- said to be at least 80 years old -- reportedly was dead for some 10 days when hotel workers found her, police spokeswoman Christi Golden said.

The couple reportedly consistently lived in hotels and stayed at the Red Roof Inn for a number of months before the woman died of natural causes. The widower was cooperative with authorities and said "he didn't want to part with" his wife, Golden told the newspaper.
