SANTIAGO, Chile, March 19 (UPI) -- The husband of a longtime hostage of Colombian rebels and former presidential candidate has asked Chile's president to aid in her release.

Juan Carlos Lecompte met with Chilean President Michelle Bachelet in Santiago, Chile, to discuss a new plan for securing the release of his wife, Ingrid Betancourt, who was captured by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, in 2002 while campaigning for the Colombian presidency.
