State Senate Minority Leader Steve Geller and Sen. Jeremy Ring have asked the campaigns of Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama to seat Florida's delegates, The Miami Herald reported.
Under their plan, half of Florida's delegates would be seated based on the Jan. 29 vote, giving Clinton 63 delegates and Obama 43 delegates, the newspaper said. The other half of the state's delegates would be awarded based on several factors, including the national vote.
"We are willing to compromise. But we have to have partners who are willing to compromise,'' Geller was quoted as saying. ''We're calling on the campaigns to work it out between the two of them."
Ring said he spoke with ''surrogates'' for the campaigns, and that each accused the other camp of not wanting to begin negotiations.
Critics, however, say Florida's delegates should not be awarded based on other states' primaries.
"It is based 50 percent on the will of Florida voters. And 50 percent on the will of other voters," Democratic state Sen. Nan Rich said. "It needs to be based on what happened in Florida -- not what happened in the Iowa caucus or Wyoming or anywhere else."
