CAMDEN, N.J., March 18 (UPI) -- A naked knife-wielding man was shot dead after he charged a Camden, N.J., police officer and grabbed her gun.
Lamont Morton was hit at least seven times during the confrontation Monday, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The officer, Rominita Rivera, was in Cooper Medical Center. She reportedly was hit four times, possibly by other police officers.
Rivera was the first person to respond to a call that Morton had stabbed another man during an argument, the Inquirer said. Witnesses said after Morton was disarmed once, he grabbed another knife, undressed and began threatening other people.
When Morton came at her, Rivera fired several times. Police said he kept charging and grabbed her gun before being killed.
"We're not sure who shot who or what happened," Camden County Prosecutor Joshua Ottenberg told the Inquirer.
