Canadian politicians use 'escorts,' too

OTTAWA, March 18 (UPI) -- Escort services in Canada's capital say politicians hiring women for dates isn't restricted to the United States, where New York's governor resigned in scandal.

The Sun Media group contacted several agencies in Ottawa, and all said former and current elected officials have used their services but none would reveal names, the report said.

One 25-year-old woman identified only as Valerie said she works as an independent escort and charges $600 for three hours.

"I've slept with politicians a number of times and I'm sure it'll happen again," she told Sun Media.

With regard to Eliot Spitzer, who resigned last week as New York governor after allegations arose of repeated dates with a 22-year-old prostitute from New Jersey, Valerie said he deserved the disgrace.

"He was a hypocrite," she said in the Sun Media article. "He shouted loud and strong that he was a righteous man and led a fight against prostitution while taking advantage of such services all the while. I'd say he was paid in kind."
