LONDON, March 17 (UPI) -- British police can continue to hold a West Yorkshire man for questioning in the abduction of a 9-year-old girl rescued after a nearly monthlong disappearance.

Shannon Matthews was found alive under a bed in the apartment of Mick Donovan, 39, during a police raid 24 days after she disappeared, Sky News reported Monday.

Donovan's apartment in the West Yorkshire town of Dewsbury is just a mile from Matthews' home.

Police say Donovan, also known as Paul Drake, is the uncle of Shannon's stepfather, Craig Meehan.

Sources told Sky News police suspect Donovan acted alone but received permission from a local magistrate to continue questioning him to see if anyone else was involved. He can be held a maximum of four days without being charged.
