Peru ruins may predate the Incas

LIMA, March 15 (UPI) -- Ancient temples recently discovered in Peru could predate even the ancient Inca empire, archaeologists said.

The discovery was made in same region of southern Peru that is home to the mountaintop ruins of Machu Picchu, La Republica newspaper reported Friday.

The sophisticated layout of the ancient city includes irrigation canals and roadways and temple ruins that include nearly a dozen rooms that were once thought to contain relics and mummified remains.
