BAGHDAD, March 13 (UPI) -- A young Iraqi girl was killed in an apparent mistake during a military strike in the troubled province of Diyala, the Multi-National Forces said Thursday.

The report said troops were operating in an area where explosive devices had been found and fired a warning shot near "a suspicious woman" who seemed to be signaling someone.

Soldiers found a young girl suffering from a gunshot wound and rushed her to a medical facility but she died en route, KUNA news service said.

The incident was under investigation.
