ANKARA, Turkey, March 13 (UPI) -- Turkish soldiers killed 11 members of the rebel Workers Party of Kurdistan in skirmishes near the Turkey-Iraq border, military officials said.

A village guard who was helping Turkish troops was injured in the fighting, Hurriyet reported Thursday.

Soldiers killed two separatists in a clash after an unmanned air surveillance vehicle detected members of the group also known as PKK in the area, reported the Turkish Dogan News Agency, which publishes Hurriyet. The other nine PKK followers were killed in fighting throughout the day.
