Teen accused of kicking woman to death

PRESTON , England, March 12 (UPI) -- A 15-year-old British boy allegedly kicked a young woman to death for dressing like a "Goth," a jury hearing his murder case was told.

Sophie Lancaster, 20, and her boyfriend, Robert Maltby, 21, were allegedly attacked by the intoxicated youth in August 2007, The Times of London reported Wednesday.

The boy, who denies the murder accusation, was with a group of four other boys who behaved "like a pack of wild animals" while they "savagely and mercilessly" mauled Lancaster and her boyfriend, a jury heard.

Lancaster reportedly was taken to the hospital after paramedics arrived but died there almost two weeks later.

The 15-year-old and four other teenagers, two ages 17 and on 16, have already pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm to Maltby, the Times reported.

"It would appear that Mr. Maltby and Miss Lancaster were singled out, not for anything they had said or done, but because they dressed differently to the defendant and his friend," prosecutor Michael Shorrock said.
