WASHINGTON, March 12 (UPI) -- Former Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney said Wednesday he would be "honored" to be the running mate of the man who beat him, John McCain.
In an appearance on the Fox News Channel, the former Massachusetts governor said he has no hard feelings against the Arizona senator, his former rival and presumptive GOP presidential nominee, The New York Times reported.
"I think any Republican leader in this country would be honored to be asked to serve as the vice presidential nominee, myself included," Romney said on Fox News Channel's "Hannity & Colmes" program.
"And if the nominee of our party asked you to serve with him, anybody would be honored to receive that call."
Whether or not he is tapped by McCain, Romney said he will campaign for the party's candidate, according to advance excerpts of the Fox program.
"There are really no hard feelings, I don't think, on either side of this," he said. "There were no pacts and so forth that make people feel like that we will never come together. Instead these campaigns are all coming together. We are supporting our nominee enthusiastically, aggressively. I intend to campaign for Senator McCain."
