U.S. Attorney Michael Garcia said no deal was in place between Spitzer and the federal government, which discovered Spitzer was linked to a high-priced prostitution ring and had conducted suspicious money transfers among his personal banking accounts.
"There is no agreement between this Office and Governor Eliot Spitzer, relating to his resignation or any other matter," Garcia said in a statement in response to speculation that Spitzer struck a deal of some sort.
Spitzer, the former New York attorney general, resigned in disgrace Wednesday, two days after the information was made public.
