Sharpton threatens to sue over delegates

NEW YORK, March 10 (UPI) -- The Rev. Al Sharpton is threatening to sue the Democratic National Committee if it counts Florida's primary results, a report said.

The New York Sun reported Monday that Sharpton, founder of the National Action Network, traveled to Florida to compile lists of voters who skipped the Jan. 15 primary believing their votes would not count.

Sharpton reportedly planned to have residents sign affidavits saying they would be disenfranchised by the seating of the Florida delegation if allowed by the DNC.

The national party excluded Florida and Michigan delegates because the states held their presidential primaries ahead of when DNC rules allow.

Sharpton has not endorsed a presidential candidate, but his efforts in Florida would likely benefit Barack Obama, the newspaper reported.

In an appearance Friday on FOX News, Sharpton said Michigan and Florida delegates should not be seated, just as the DNC pledged.

"We cannot have the perception that the rules changed because of some favoritism, or because some people didn't want to see Senator Obama as the nominee, when he legitimately pulled ahead," Sharpton said.
