In its statement supporting the deadly attack in Jerusalem last week, the Aksa Martyrs Brigades also called on Abbas not to resume peace talks with Israel and to cease security coordination with Israel as well, The Jerusalem Post reported Monday.
Calling Thursday's shooting at the Mercaz Harav Yeshiva "heroic," the group said the "option of resistance remains the only method to restore our rights, free our prisoners and liberate all our lands." Aksa Martyrs Brigades, thought to have been dismantled several months ago, issued the statement from Ramallah, the former West Bank headquarters of the late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.
Meanwhile, about 20 police officers raided the mourning tent outside of the family house of the attacker, Ala Abu Dhaim. No group has asserted responsibility for the shooting, and police were not certain where Abu Dhaim got the weapons used in the attack.
Days before the Mercaz Harav attack, guards apparently frightened away two possible attackers from another yeshiva, said DEBKAfile, a military intelligence Web site. The two, posing as workers, reportedly fled when asked by guards to open a box they were carrying.
