CHICAGO, March 10 (UPI) -- U.S. Rep. Bobby Rush, D-Ill., was recovering at home Monday following recent surgery to remove a cancerous tumor from his salivary gland.

A spokesman for Rush said the congressman's staff will be handling all his legislative and constituent services for three to five weeks while he recuperates, The Chicago Tribune reports.

Rush, 62, underwent cancer surgery March 1 at the University of Chicago Medical Center.

Currently serving his eighth term, Rush has represented Illinois' 1st Congressional District since 1993. His district includes southern portions of Chicago and several southwestern suburbs.
