Bill Clinton hints at unified Dem ticket

BILOXI, Miss., March 9 (UPI) -- Former U.S. President Bill Clinton says Democratic rivals Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama would be virtually "unstoppable" on a joint presidential ticket.

Speaking at a campaign rally for his wife in Biloxi, Miss., Clinton said pairing the two senators would likely win the election as each candidate for the Democratic nomination appeals to different demographics, the New York Daily News reported Sunday.

"(Obama) would win the urban areas and the upscale voters, and she wins the traditional rural areas that we lost when President Reagan was president," the former head of state said. "If you put those two things together, you'd have an almost unstoppable force."

While Hillary Clinton has said she is open to such an electoral ticket as long as she is the presidential nominee, Obama has dismissed such talk to date. Instead, the Illinois senator reiterates he is seeking the presidency, not the nation's second-highest position.

Obama's quest for the Democratic presidential nomination was increased Saturday when he defeated the New York senator in Wyoming by a margin of 61 percent to 38 percent.
