ANNAPOLIS, Md., March 8 (UPI) -- Two midshipmen at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., are facing charges ranging from possession and distribution of child pornography to rape.

A spokeswoman for the military academy said Midshipman 1st Class Michael Pollard was accused of possession of child pornography, along with receiving and distributing the illicit goods, The Navy Times reported Friday.

The midshipman also is facing charges for allegedly obstructing justice and making a false statement, academy spokeswoman Jennifer Erickson said. Those alleged violations all reportedly took place between July 2003 and August 2007.

While Pollard's hearing is scheduled for March 24, Midshipman 2nd Class Mark Calvanico will wait until March 28 to face charges he allegedly committed rape on Oct. 14, 2007.

The Times said Calvanico also has been accused of breaking and entering a dwelling with the intent to commit rape, along with unauthorized absence and conduct unbecoming an officer.
