AMMAN, Jordan, March 8 (UPI) -- The family of a Jordanian gunman who carried out a terrorist attack in Jerusalem this week has been told they cannot mourn his death in public.

Jordanian resident Muhammed Abu Dhaim, the uncle of slain gunman Ala Abu Dhaim, said his country's security officers told family members to dismantle a mourning tent on orders from the governor of the capital of Amman, The Jerusalem Post said Saturday.

"We were hoping that people would come to congratulate us on the martyrdom of my nephew," he said.

"The Jordanian authorities' decision is unjustified and doesn't make sense. My nephew carried out a heroic operation against an extremist Zionist college that calls for killing Palestinians."

The attack on the Mercaz HaRav religious school in Jerusalem Thursday left eight students dead and seven others wounded. Abu Dhaim was killed during the attack, as well.

The Post said the Jordanian government previously blocked public mourning of arch-terrorist Abu Musab Zarqawi from taking place in the town of Zarqa.
