Body found iced in posh California hotel

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., March 8 (UPI) -- A woman's body packed in dry ice was found at an upscale Southern California hotel, police said.

Newport Beach police found the fully clothed body in a rubber or plastic container while searching a room at the swanky Fairmont Hotel after making a drug bust, the Los Angeles Times reported.

"It's very odd," police spokesman Sgt. Evan Sailor was quoted as saying. "It's not normal; it's a little weird."

Police say they know nothing about the body, not even who she is or how she died, the newspaper reported.

Police said they searched the hotel room after arresting a man on suspicion of possessing and selling cocaine.

Stephen David Royds, 46, was booked into the city jail. He had not been charged in the woman's death, the newspaper reported.

The Orange County coroner's office said Friday that the victim did not appear to have been murdered. The cause of her death is under investigation.
