The Media Center for National Security said fighting in Welioya left 12 members of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam and two soldiers dead and 10 soldiers wounded, the Colombo Page reported Friday.
Four Tiger rebels and two soldiers were killed in a separate incident on Thursday. Three soldiers were wounded in fighting in the Thadduthadamalai region.
Seven Tigers died while fighting in Vavuniya Thursday and 12 were killed while fighting in the Parappakandal area, in Mannar, the newspaper said. Troops reportedly took the area from the rebels.
In another incident, three rebels were reported dead Thursday in fighting in the Nagarkovil and Killali areas in Jaffna.
