The unidentified 34-year-old woman awoke on the second floor of the house to the smell of smoke coming from the first floor just after midnight, The Gazette reported.
The woman reportedly began throwing her children ages 2-10 out of the windows onto snow banks 30 feet below, firefighters said. Once they were out, the woman leaped to safety, the report said.
One of the children, a 3-year-old, suffered burns and lung injuries from smoke, while the children and their mother sustained only minor injuries, The Gazette said. All were expected to survive, police said.
There were no smoke detectors in the house on Montreal's east side, firefighters said.
