WASHINGTON, March 6 (UPI) -- Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama said he raised $55 million in February, dwarfing what his rival Hillary Clinton said she raised last month.

The Illinois senator brought in a record haul by tapping nearly 750,000 donors, including 385,000 who were donating to the campaign for the first time, the Chicago Tribune reported Thursday.

Virtually all the money -- $45 million – was raised through the Internet, the newspaper reported.

Clinton reportedly raised $35 million in February, a record take for her campaign, RTT News reported.

Since her wins in Tuesday's primaries in Rhode Island, Texas and Ohio, the New York senator has raised $4 million, the news service reported.

"We're going to have the funds we need to keep this campaign going, to keep Hillary Clinton's message out there," Clinton adviser Ann Lewis was quoted as saying.
