Disney World adds safety features to ride

ORLANDO, Fla., March 6 (UPI) -- Orlando's Walt Disney World is making safety improvements to a roller coaster after a worker died at the Florida attraction last year, the company said.

Alterations are being made to the Primeval Whirl ride in Animal Kingdom, including sensor mats installed where Disney worker Karen Price, 63, was fatally injured when hit by a roller-coaster car Nov. 24, 2007, the Orlando (Fla.) Sentinel reported Wednesday.

The death reportedly is still being investigated by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

"We are always looking at ways to enhance safety," Disney World spokeswoman Kim Prunty said.

After-hours work reportedly is being conducted to install the sensor mats, which will shut the ride down if a person enters the restricted area, along with wide striping added to entrance and exit areas.

Work will be completed in upcoming weeks and is not expected to interfere with operation of the ride, the Sentinel reported.
