KAMPALA, Uganda, March 6 (UPI) -- Lord's Resistance Army rebels fought with Ugandan Government soldiers this week, leaving one soldier dead, a spokesman said.

Fighting occurred near the one-time Lord's Resistance Army camp of Rubangatek in Eastern Equatoria, New Vision reported Wednesday.

"They clashed with our forces and killed one. We fought back and repulsed them," Maj. Paddy Ankunda said of Tuesday's fighting.

Ankunda said the fighting violated a peace agreement that is supposed to last until the end of March.

"Their presence in eastern Equatoria is a blatant violation of the agreement. They are not supposed to move eastwards. They are supposed to assemble at Ri-Kwangba, 400km to the west," he said.

The Lord's Resistance Army is expected to sign another peace agreement before the end of March, the report said.
