QUITO, Ecuador, March 4 (UPI) -- Ecuador Tuesday called for the Organization of American States to condemn Colombia for invading its territory in pursuit of leftist Colombian rebels.
The Ecuadorian representative to the OAS said there should be a full investigation into the killing of rebel leader Raul Reyes in Ecuadorian territory last weekend, El Comercio reported Tuesday.
Ecuador said Monday it would "sever all diplomatic relations" with Colombia due to the killing, El Comercio reported online.
Quito also announced it was sending troops to its border with Colombia.
Reyes, a senior leader of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, and 16 other members of the rebel group were killed by Colombian forces about one mile inside Ecuadorian territory, where they had established a camp.
FARC has been battling Colombian forces for more than 40 years.
