KAMPALA, Uganda, March 3 (UPI) -- The Ugandan government has struck an agreement with the rebel Lord's Resistance Army to continue the current cessation of hostilities until the end of March.

The parties agreed Saturday to extend the cease-fire until the end of the month, when a final peace accord is expected to be signed, the New Vision (Kampala, Uganda) reported Monday.

"The cessation of hostilities agreement is extended until the cease-fire comes into force, and in any event not later than March 28, by which date the final peace agreement shall have been signed," the addendum reads.

The addendum marks the sixth time the cessation of hostilities agreement has been extended since its adoption in August 2006.

Negotiations between the Ugandan government and the LRA to discuss the final details of the peace agreement are scheduled to resume March 12.

"If we have to respect this document, we have to sign before March 28," chief mediator Riek Machar said.
