TEL AVIV, Israel, March 2 (UPI) -- Police broke up a demonstration Sunday in the Israel Arab village of Wadi Ara, where protesters were calling for an end to Israeli offensive in Gaza.

Haaretz reported that the rally, organized by Israeli Arab party Ra'am-Ta'al, was one of three similar demonstrations Sunday.

At a Hadash-organized rally outside the Israel Defense Forces headquarters in Tel Aviv, police arrested two protesters, the newspaper reported.

The rallies were endorsed by the Higher Arab Monitoring Committee, the report said.

"Israel is taking advantage of the internal Palestinian schisms between the various Palestinian factions," said committee chairman Shawki Khatib. "The only way do deal with the Israeli offensive is through genuine Palestinian unity. Our job, as a part of the Palestinian nation that has a clear opinion in the matter, is to help our people deal with existential challenges."
