POMPANO BEACH, Fla., March 1 (UPI) -- A Florida middle school teacher who pleaded no contest to charges he molested three of his students was sentenced to 13 years in prison.
Former Crystal Lake Middle school geography teacher Adrian Valdez also received 50 years of sex offender probation and three years of house arrest for molesting a 12-year-old boy and two 14-year-old boys, The Miami Herald reported Saturday.
Appearing in Broward Circuit Court Friday, Valdez offered an apology.
''Ultimately, I was the adult and things should not have occurred,'' he said. "I should act more responsibly.''
Valdez has been in prison since 2005 when he was arrested for performing a sex act on one of his 12-year-old students. Later, the two 14-year-old students came forward and offered similar stories involving sex acts with their geography teacher.
The Herald said Valdez, who is no longer employed by the school district, will get credit for time served.
