ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Feb. 28 (UPI) -- A missile struck a house in a remote part of Pakistan, killing at least eight suspected militants and injuring three others, intelligence officials said.

CNN quoted sources as saying the U.S. military denied any role in the strike, which occurred in Azam Warsak in South Waziristan, a mountainous area near the Afghan border believed to be a haven for al-Qaida and Taliban factions.

Earlier reports indicated a seminary also was hit and put the death toll at 13 with 11 injured. The Press Trust of India said the missile hit while the students were asleep.

The strike occurred as local militants in South Waziristan called for a unilateral cease-fire in the region.

Residents reported three missiles were fired, but officials said only one missile struck the seminary.
