Drew Peterson gets guns, loses permit

CHICAGO, Feb. 28 (UPI) -- An Illinois judge ruled Wednesday that prosecutors must return former police officer Drew Peterson's guns, while state police soon after revoked his gun permit.

Peterson's attorney, Joel Brodsky, argued that investigators have had more than enough time to analyze the evidence, which was seized by state police from Peterson's home in November, the Chicago Tribune said.

Will County Judge Richard Schoenstedt ruled Wednesday that investigators must turn over the personal items, which included computers and other property in addition to guns, by March 12. State police, however, revoked Peterson's firearm permit just hours after Schoenstedt's ruling.

Peterson, a former Bolingbrook, Ill., police sergeant, has been named a suspect in the Oct. 28 disappearance of his wife, Stacy Peterson. Authorities also are reinvestigating the death of his third wife, Kathleen Savio, which was recently ruled a homicide.

Peterson has not been charged with any crime and has denied any involvement in the two cases, the newspaper said.
