Canadian adults use Web more than teens

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Feb. 28 (UPI) -- A national survey published Thursday shows Canadian adults spend more hours using the Internet per week than teenagers.

The Ipsos Reid poll of 1,041 adults and 1,272 teenagers between 12 and 17 found adults averaged 19 hours online per week to the youths' 13 hours, the Vancouver Sun reported.

Steve Mossop, president of market research for Ipsos Reid in Western Canada, told the Sun there were also notable difference in what the two groups do online, with teenagers being more conservative.

"Adults are doing everything online from shopping for houses, to shopping for consumer goods, to buying travel, banking -- all those things that we do," he said. "When you look at teens, they do three things: They socialize, they deal with music and they play games. Those things are not even a tenth of what adults do online."
