WASHINGTON, Feb. 27 (UPI) -- U.S. Sen. Robert C. Byrd, who fell in his Virginia home this week, did not break any bones and is in good spirits, a spokesman said Wednesday.
The West Virginia Democrat took a tumble Monday night and was admitted to Walter Reed Army Medical Center Tuesday after complaining of back pains.
Byrd spokesman Jesse Jacobs said the 90-year-old senator had no signs of broken bones in his back but had not yet been discharged, The Hill reported.
Byrd felt "feisty" Wednesday morning and "wondered who was looking after his dog," Jacobs was quoted as saying.
The office of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., was told Byrd will return to the Senate soon, a Reid spokesman told the newspaper.
Byrd is the longest serving senator in American history and as Senate president pro tempore is third in line of succession to the presidency.
