KINGMAN, Ariz., Feb. 26 (UPI) -- Arizona authorities said Utah officials have handed over polygamist sect leader Warren Jeffs for trial on charges of organizing marriages of teenage girls.

Deputies from Arizona's Mohave County Sheriff's Office brought Jeffs into the state, where is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday on charges of organizing the marriages of two young girls to older men, KPHO-TV, Phoenix, reported Tuesday.

Jeffs went into hiding in 2005 after Arizona prosecutors filed the charges. He was arrested in Utah in August 2006 and was subsequently convicted of rape as an accomplice after he arranged the marriage of a 14-year-old girl to her 19-year-old cousin.
