CARACAS, Venezuela, Feb. 25 (UPI) -- Venezuelan officials said Monday they would rescue four hostages of Colombian leftist rebels some time this week, Globovision TV reported.

Interior Minister Ramon Rodriguez Chacin said he would go to where the hostages were being held in the Colombian jungle and bring them back to Venezuela.

Venezuelan officials helped last month with the recovery of two hostages being held for several years by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC.

FARC rebels have been battling the Colombian government for more than 40 years.
