BAGHDAD, Feb. 25 (UPI) -- Gunmen killed an Iraqi military commander and several of his bodyguards east of Baquba Monday, Iraqi military officials said.
Officials said militants attacked a military patrol vehicle with machine guns and other weaponry, killing Maj. Salem Kalas and seven military personnel, the Kuwaiti news agency KUNA said Monday.
Meanwhile, police said at least 11 people -- including police officials -- were killed in violence in Iraq Monday, and an Iraqi security source told KUNA police discovered a mass grave that included unidentified women killed in the Khales area in Dayala province.
Among Monday's victims were at least three Shiite pilgrims killed in southern Baghdad when a roadside bomb detonated as their convoy headed to Karbala to mark the anniversary of the death of Imam al-Hussein, KUNA reported.
A police officer in Samara died and nine others were injured in a suicide bombing when a disabled man in a wheelchair blew himself up in a police station, CNN reported. Police said the man was to meet with Brig. Gen. Abdul Jabbar Rabei Muttar, deputy commander of security, at the facility.
Police said at least seven Iraqis, including four police officers, were killed in Mosul in two separate attacks, KUNA reported.
