WASHINGTON, Feb. 25 (UPI) -- Former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, whose endorsement is being courted by two of his former rivals, has joined a group backing Barack Obama.
The former North Carolina senator Monday joined the anti-war efforts of the Service Employees International Union and MoveOn.org, which have both endorsed the Illinois senator over Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., The Hill reported.
On Monday, Edwards helped announce an effort called the Iraq/Recession Campaign, aimed at drawing attention to the cost of the Iraq war, the newspaper reported.
"As economic concerns weigh heavily on the minds of Americans, opposition to President Bush's reckless war in Iraq continues to grow," the group said in a statement.
Other Democratic groups joining the anti-war campaign, which have not endorsed a candidate, include VoteVets.org, Americans United for Change and the Center for American Progress, and the left-leaning think tank led by John Podesta, a former aide to President Bill Clinton.
