WASHINGTON, Feb. 24 (UPI) -- Consumer advocate Ralph Nader Sunday announced he will run for U.S. president as an independent, CNN reported.

Nader ran for president as an independent in 2004 and as the Green Party candidate in 2000.

Critics blame him for taking votes away from the Democratic Party nominee in 2000, Vice President Al Gore, helping Republican George W. Bush to be elected.
