DETROIT, Feb. 23 (UPI) -- The body of a 10-year-old Detroit boy was recovered Saturday in the Rouge River, two days after he fell through the ice.

Mark Brown, a fourth-grader, was playing with friends Thursday, the Detroit Free Press reported. He walked out on the ice on a brook flowing into the river.

The friends sought help at a K-Mart store nearby, but Mark had vanished by the time they returned. Police divers began looking for the boy immediately.

The search was a difficult one because of trash in the river and the murky water.
