Fetus found at water treatment plant

NITRO, W.Va., Feb. 22 (UPI) -- Authorities in West Virginia are investigating the discovery of a human fetus at a wastewater treatment facility, it was reported Friday.

The Charleston (W.Va.) Gazette reported that the fetus was found by a worker cleaning a drain at the Nitro, W.Va., facility.

Nitro Police Lt. Don Scurlock said the fetus was probably considerably less than 20 weeks from conception. He said the fetus' age won't be certain until the state medical examiner's office completes its examination.

"Our focus is trying to locate the mother, to make sure she has medical attention," Scurlock was quoted as saying.
