Husband convicted in poisoning death

ELKHORN, Wis., Feb. 21 (UPI) -- A jury in Wisconsin Thursday found a man guilty of poisoning his wife with antifreeze and suffocating her with a pillow, it was reported

The Walworth County jury of five men and seven women deliberated a total of 32 hours during three days before convicting Mark Jensen, 48, guilty in the 1998 death of Julie Jensen, 40, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported. Jensen, whose parents sat behind him in court, showed no reaction to the jury's decision, which followed a seven-week trial, the newspaper said.

Prosecutors had argued Jensen, who did not testify in his own defense, wanted his wife dead because he was having an affair with another woman he later married. Jensen's attorneys claimed Julie Jensen was depressed and committed suicide.

The trial was moved from Kenosha County because of pretrial publicity, but handled by Kenosha County Circuit Judge Bruce Schroeder.
