Clinton says wife must win Texas and Ohio

BEAUMONT, Texas, Feb. 21 (UPI) -- Former U.S. President Bill Clinton told a crowd in Texas that Sen. Hillary Clinton must win primaries in Texas and Ohio to stay alive in the race for president.

The former president's statements were his most blunt in regards to his wife's chances of becoming the Democratic nominee for president, CNN reported.

"If she wins in Texas and Ohio, I think she will be the nominee. If you don't deliver for her then I don't think she can. It's all on you," he said Wednesday during a rally in Texas.

Bill Clinton's statements came after his wife's 10th consecutive primary loss to Democratic rival Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., the report said.

Hillary Clinton supporter and former Bill Clinton adviser James Carville reportedly said on a separate occasion that if Hillary Clinton fails to win in Texas and Ohio, her chances will be over.

The Clinton campaign has reportedly placed importance on the March 4, Texas and Ohio contests, but didn't say she would exit the race if she doesn't win them.
