CROSS CREEK, Fla., Feb. 20 (UPI) -- U.S. author Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, who wrote Pulitzer Prize-winning "The Yearling," will grace a new 41-cent, first class stamp.
The new stamp will be dedicated Thursday at her Cross Creek, Fla., home, located in a state park named in her honor, the U.S. Postal Service said Wednesday in a news release.
"What better location to immortalize Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings on postage than the captivating surroundings that inspired her work," said Mary Ann Gibbons, USPS senior vice president and general counsel.
Joining Gibbons in the dedication is a Rawlings protege, whom she inspired to become a writer and artist. J.T. "Jake" Glisson said he grew up knowing Rawlings as his parents' next-door neighbor "200 yards up the road."
"The Yearling" -- the story of a young farm boy who takes in a fawn as a pet -- was adapted for the screen in 1946, earning six Oscar nominations, including best picture, and winning for art direction and cinematography.
Rawlings died of a cerebral hemorrhage at 57 in 1953.
