STRATFORD, Prince Edward Island, Feb. 20 (UPI) -- A second young Canadian athlete died this week suddenly in unusual, but unrelated circumstances, the Canwest News Service reported Wednesday.
Tuesday, 20-year-old ultimate fighting trainee and biology student Rene Ayangma collapsed and died suddenly while in a boxing match in a gymnasium in Prince Edward Island, the report said.
One of his friends, Kayla Arsenault, told the news agency Ayangma had never taken drugs or steroids and rarely ever drank because "he didn't have time with all his studying" to become a doctor.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said the province's chief coroner was investigating and an autopsy was scheduled for Wednesday.
Ayangma's death follows the unexplained death Monday of 19-year-old Mickey Renaud, captain of the Windsor (Ontario) Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League, who died suddenly at home, the report said.
An autopsy was performed on Renaud Tuesday, but results weren't expected to be released for some time, the report said.
