TORONTO, Feb. 19 (UPI) -- An estranged couple in Toronto have been arrested for allegedly abandoning their 8-month-old son in a snow bank, the Toronto Sun reported Tuesday.
An unidentified woman called police Monday night saying she found the boy crying in the snow near her townhouse parking lot.
Toronto Police Sgt. Steve Ferris told the newspaper the child hadn't been there long, was hospitalized and made a ward of the Children's Aid Society.
Neighbors helped identify the parents and the father was located soon after, Ferris said. The mother was also found at the couple's townhouse, but there was a delay in questioning her until a Vietnamese-speaking officer could be located, the report said.
The abandonment was the second in the city in less than two weeks. On Jan. 30, an infant girl was found in a freezing parking garage stairwell. She survived, but no one has come forward to claim her, the newspaper said.
