SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 19 (UPI) -- The San Francisco Zoo's big cats are back in their renovated enclosure for the first time since an escaped Siberian tiger killed a teenager Christmas Day.
Keepers say the four lions and three tigers now resident at the zoo appear to be adjusting well, the San Francisco Chronicle reported. They were moved from cages behind their exhibit back to the grotto during the weekend with reporters allowed in to see them Monday.
"You never know how animals like this are going to react to the changes," said Bob Jenkins, director of animal care and conservation.
The exhibit may be reopened to the public by the end of the week.
The tiger that got loose killed a teenager from San Jose and mauled his friends, two brothers. Police officers shot the tiger.
The walls of the enclosure were raised and a fence added on top, and an electric fence was added at the moat that separates the lions and tigers.
