Accused killer charged in jail attack

PONTIAC, Mich., Feb. 19 (UPI) -- A jail inmate facing charges in a Michigan workplace shooting is now accused of attacking a jail guard with a shank.

Anthony LaCalamita allegedly tried to stab a deputy sheriff during the weekend at the Oakland County Jail in Pontiac where he is being held for shooting three people, one fatally, at an accounting firm in Troy.

The Detroit News said Tuesday LaCalamita has a history of mental problems. He was arraigned in Pontiac Monday on a charge of assault with intent to murder.

The deputy was not injured. It was not known what provoked the incident
