SAMARA , Iraq, Feb. 18 (UPI) -- Documents have been found that support claims that al-Qaida in Iraq targeted allies thought not loyal to the terrorist group, coalition military analysts said.
Video received by CNN showed al-Qaida in Iraq lining up and executing Sunni extremists. The video was part of a cache of documents coalition forces found last year during a raid on a compound near Samara that was allegedly used for torture and killing.
"Al-Qaida in Iraq, which is foreign-led and foreign-dominated here inside Iraq, is killing off other Sunni groups that are certainly not supportive of the government of Iraq, currently, or of the foreign occupation, but are not sharing the same ideology that al-Qaida in Iraq has," U.S. Navy Rear Adm. Gregory Smith said.
Coalition officials say the documents indicate a rift among the groups fighting coalition forces, CNN said.
Al-Qaida in Iraq "would like nothing more than to aggravate the situation," Smith said.
