$15G reward gets Toronto man's dog back

TORONTO, Feb. 18 (UPI) -- A Toronto man whose Labrador retriever was stolen Saturday was reunited with it a day later after posting a $15,000 reward, local media reported.

Bert Clark, 36, left for a trip to Florida Friday, leaving his 3 1/2-year-old pet named Huckleberry with a dog walker, the Toronto Star reported.

Saturday morning, the woman tied the dog to a pole and went into a bakery, and the dog was taken, Clark said. She called Clark, who got on the next flight home, and aided by family and friends, plastered the missing notices and an offer of $15,000 throughout the city, the newspaper said.

Sunday, Clark said he got two unusual and brief telephone messages which led to the dog's return. He refused to give details of how the handover was done, nor would he say of he paid the full reward.

However, he said after the second phone call, he began making arrangements to get the cash.

"He's a very gentle and trusting kind of dog with a sense of humor," Clark told the Star. "He is a priority in my life. I plan my day around him."
