CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., Feb. 17 (UPI) -- Some U.S. Christian teens and young adults are replacing fatty foods or meat with social networking Web sites as the thing they prefer to give up for for Lent.

Christa Byker, a 21-year-old senior at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, is among those turning their backs to Facebook.com for Lent, The (Norfolk) Virginian-Pilot reported.

Byker, who is from Virginia Beach, said she used to spend at least a half-hour each day on the social networking site. Facebook reported that more than half its 64 million active users visit daily.

Despite the trend, Facebook has not seen a drop in active accounts during Lent, said Malorie Lucich, a spokeswoman for the site.
